Remember the controversy over the Oscar for Best Picture? See what all the hype is about!
Join us on Wednesday, April 5 at 7 p.m. in the Rudder Forum for the Women’s and Gender Studies, Film Studies, and Africana Studies Programs’ free public screening of Moonlight, the 2016 Oscar winner for Best Picture. Moonlight tells the story of a gay African-American man growing up in Miami housing projects. It shows personal and political struggles with sexuality, masculinity, class, and race through his experiences from adolescence to adulthood.
Immediately following the screening there will be a panel discussion featuring Dr. Joseph Jewell (Sociology, Africana Studies, Women’s and Gender Studies), Dr. Lisa Ellis (Women’s and Gender Studies, Film Studies), and Dr. Daniel Humphrey (Women’s and Gender Studies, Film Studies).
