Graduate Dissertation Grant: April 1, 3:00 p.m. Deadline
The Women’s and Gender Studies Program offers a Graduate Dissertation Grant, of up to $1,000 for dissertation research on projects relevant to Women’s and Gender Studies. Topics might include the social construction of gender, gender-based discrimination, historical and contemporary representations of gender and sexuality, women’s literature, women and politics, gender in various media, transnationalism, queer and feminist theory, reproduction, and other gender-related issues. Projects in any discipline are eligible for consideration, and those incorporating interdisciplinary perspectives are encouraged. Grants may be used to cover costs associated with completing the dissertation, including but not limited to photocopying, travel to libraries, book purchases, and computer software necessary for research.
Student applicants must be enrolled in, or have completed, the WGST Graduate Certificate Program. Applicants must have passed the preliminary examination, must be officially enrolled in the university at the time of application. Applicants must not be in their final semester. Preference will be given to students who have been admitted to candidacy by April 1. Graduate Student Travel Assistance Grant or Graduate Student Research Assistance Grant: Deadlines are December 1, for travel January to May; May 1, for travel June to August; August 1, for travel September to December
Graduate students who are enrolled and making demonstrable progress in the WGST Graduate Certificate Program, or have completed the WGST Graduate Certificate, and who are conducting research and/or presenting conference papers relevant to Women’s and Gender Studies may apply. These grants are for a maximun of up to $250. Evaluations are based on merit, prestige of the conference, feasibility of research, and need. Papers that have already been presented outside TAMU are ineligible. Incomplete applications will be disqualified. Grant applications are considered three times a year.
